Key Stage Three

The Drama Department provides an imaginative, interesting curriculum for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students have one hour of Drama per fortnight and work through a variety of different units, covering aspects of Drama such as physical theatre and devising theatre. Students also study old and new works, ranging from Shakespeare to modern plays.

Key Stage Four

The Drama department offers the opportunity for students to complete the WJEC GCSE specification in Drama at Key Stage 4. The course is an exciting, inspiring and practical option. The specification promotes involvement in and enjoyment of drama, as performers and/or designers. Additionally, it provides opportunities to attend live theatre performances and to develop skills as informed and thoughtful audience members. It is designed to give students a broad and balanced experience of drama and is designed to integrate knowledge and understanding of how drama and theatre are developed and performed across a range of dramatic activities.

Key Stage Five

The Drama Department currently offers students the opportunity to study BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts Subsidiary Diploma. This course is superb for students as the qualification can be tailor made to fit their skills and requirements. Current units taught include Musical Theatre, Auditions for Actors and Theatre in Education.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Extra Curricular work is a vital part of the work of the Drama Department. Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4/5 Drama clubs are run weekly and provide students with additional opportunities to develop their communication and teamwork skills, as well as improving their dramatic abilities. The Drama department also works closely with the Music Department to produce a whole school production every year, following on from the success of “We Will Rock You” in 2015 and “Annie” in 2016. The department also runs regularly trips to professional theatre companies and musicals.

“The opportunities that the Drama Department has given me to get involved with the school shows with- out having to get on stage is fantastic. I have stage managed the last two school productions and it has allowed me to build my confidence and use my strengths” Morgan Masters
